What makes you write stories and how do you go about it?
Readers and interested parties, always ask me, ‘what makes you write stories and how do you go about it? Well, I thought I could answer only for me. But after hearing other author’s talk at a writers conference, it seems we all come from the same tribe! You are born with a need, a desire and the drive to write stories. Now some of us are far more academic and therefore literary geniuses.
However, and not taking away from this, I readily agree with legendary writer Somerset Maugham, who said, and I quote. “If you can tell stories, create characters, devise an incident and have sincerity and passion! It doesn’t matter a damn how you write.”
I suppose this rings true with any undertaking, beit, playing tennis, running a marathon, playing football. It doesn’t matter how well you play, you enjoy it and if others enjoy, either playing with you, or family and friends enjoy watching and cheering then it doesn’t matter how good you are. You are making yourself and others happy.
So to ALL writers, I say, keep writing, for we are the historians for future generations. They will read your pages, as we have done, and compare, learn and treasure the stories of past writers.
